Network Laws

1) The network law that I agree most with would have to be Reed’s Law.  Reed’s Law claims “the utility of large networks can scale exponentially with the size of the network.” With this idea, groups can communicate with others. A simple example is group messaging; you send out one message and multiple people see it. If you look at how most people interact online it’s through social media.  Reed’s Law relates to social media because of how large those networking sites can be. Take Twitter, if something is hashtagged, people are able to see everything that has the same hashtag. By hashtagging something the number of people that are able to seeing this particular message is growing rapidly. This is because of their online groups. The groups that we form online help expand the value of something by the idea of multi-way communication.
2) Five years from now I expect people to be receiving information in a similar way to how we receive information now. The majority of information we gather I'm assuming will still be from the internet. I think that social networks will still be a prevalent way to know about what it going on in the world. I do also believe that the information we see will be more catered to our individual preferences. I'm sure there will be new platforms to get information from, but I don’t see a huge change in the way we get our news in the near future.

Generation Like

1. Using the girl that was obsessed with Hunger Games is a good example of these four ideas. Engagement- People coming back to your site and are interested. The girl engaging with the cast of Hunger Games, visiting the site daily and also tweeting about Hunger Games.
Interaction- The way people respond to something. The girl obsessing over Hunger Games and trying to be the biggest fan.
Reach- How many people something reaches. The website would put out information that would go to their following group and then people that followed them would also share this information. The girl would see new information about Hunger Games and would then tweet about it, therefore reaching more and more people.
Target- This is who they want their audience to be. With Hunger Games it was teens, and that girl was a perfect example of their target audience.

2. Personally, I don't have a Facebook, but what it means to me is that you agree with what the person has to say. When liking someones post you are acknowledging what they have to say, by doing this you are also saying that the content of their post is something you found funny, agree with, or just enjoyed reading. The video explained "like"ing something as a form of online currency, which to me means that liking something has a value. The more "likes" a post gets, the more confident you are with that post.

3. I feel that know that others "Like" the same thing that I "Like" does have an impact on me. I am a strong believer in the idea of the bandwagon. People want to be part of something, and by having similar interest you feel like you can relate to those people. It influences me in way that I am more willing to share my interest with someone if I know that they have a similar interest in something as well.

4. The concept of "influencer" means to me is that on social media have one has an influence on their followers and vise versa. This is definitely relevant for Instagram. On Instagram I follow a bunch of different people that I think are 'cool'. I am influenced by what they post whether that be clothing, a vacation spot or some tech gadget, because after I see it I am more inclined to look it up.

5. By marking Oreo along with current issues made it more relevant. By supporting same-sex marriage they were able to get their views out there. With the viewer was for or against it, it got people talking about Oreos. By keeping up with the new changes in this country Oreo was about keep up their relevancy. Also by having consumers advertise, gave people the chance to pretty much do their marketing for them.

6. Like I said in my previous response, they have their consumers do their marketing. having someone with a strong online presence to use your product will allow all of their online fans to see the product. This gets the name out their and more people will look into it. They can also do ads on social media sites themselves. By using this approach, people scrolling through Instagram will now see their ad whether they wanted to or not.

7. Brands are building trust by trying to be transparent. They try to be honest with what they are doing and how they are going about it. They also are marketing to teenagers, so that they become loyal early on.

8. By having a strong following base they are able to get a product out to their fans/viewers. A company might strike a deal with a celebrity saying they can get this product if they post a picture of it on their Instagram or Facebook. For example, I follow some of the Kardashian/Jenner crew on Instagram and they are always doing shoutout to certain products.

9. A brand with give their products to a person or event to have their name go along with it. I see this a lot with sporting events. For example, people competing in the X-Games have a sponsor and their sponsors logo is all over their gear.

10. Since they are using people who use their products to advertise they are invisible. People are advertising for a brand without even knowing it. They are being sly about how they advertise by having consumers advertise for them, which builds trust with their buyers.

11. Getting sponsors to start with. If you are liked in the game you are sent gives from people, and on social media if you have a big following companies will send you gifts to show to your fans. The game makers in the hunger games make all these elaborate plans, but are still unseen. Marketers have plans to have other people do their advertising, so they are unseen.
